Former Synthes Chief Patent Counsel Joins Conrad O’Brien PC

Conrad O’Brien is pleased to announce that Robert Rauker, the former chief patent counsel to Synthes, Inc., has been named Of Counsel to the firm. 

Prior to joining Conrad O’Brien, for over a decade, Bob served as either Chief or Senior Patent Counsel to two multi-billion dollar medical device and scientific companies. From 2004-2008, Bob was Vice President, Chief Patent Counsel for Synthes, Inc, a leading $3 billion dollar global medical device company, headquartered in West Chester, Pennsylvania. While at Synthes, he successfully managed multiple patent infringement suits around the world and created the company’s first-ever global intellectual property department, whose purpose was to improve the current and future value of the company’s intellectual property while also implementing cost-containment measures.

Today, Bob provides clients with sophisticated assistance in the areas of patent infringement litigation and trade secret protection while also counseling clients on strategic patenting initiatives, non-infringement opinions, due diligence and patent portfolio evaluations.   In addition, he has significant experience in negotiating and drafting agreements involving intellectual property, including licenses, acquisition, development, consulting, and NBD term-sheet agreements. Bob’s 15 years of experience in the medical device industry provides him with a unique ability to evaluate and counsel clients on the impact of FDA rules and regulations regarding the acquisition, licensing and development of intellectual property. 

A member of the Pennsylvania and Massachusetts Bars, Bob is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI). Bob received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and his MBA from the University of Massachusetts and is a 1995 graduate of Franklin Pierce Law Center.
