Biography
Jacquie Ager's practice focuses on commercial litigation, including extensive professional liability litigation, contract disputes, insurance matters, class actions, products liability cases, and employment law. Jacquie also has experience in conducting employment-related internal corporate investigations.
Representative Matters include the following:
- Extensive experience representing individual physicians and hospitals, including the nation’s foremost pediatric hospital, in complex medical malpractice cases in state and federal courts, as well as in ADR proceedings.
- Representation in medical actions involving credentialing and licensing issues and investigations by government agencies.
- Provide strategic advice and status updates to in-house legal counsel, risk managers, and medical-legal consultants in risk management department of the nation’s leading children’s teaching hospital and representatives of the Pennsylvania Medical Professional Liability Catastrophic Loss Fund.
- Professional liability representations have included the defense of a law firm and one of its shareholders in legal malpractice action involving creditor/lender rights and obligations. Also represented law firm and one of its shareholders in legal malpractice and defamation action concerning their representation of individual physician in high-profile medical malpractice case.
- Representation of individuals and businesses in federal and state courts as well as administrative proceedings in wide-range of employment matters, including enforcement of restrictive covenants and allegations of violations of state and federal antidiscrimination laws involving claims of sexual harassment, age, disability, pregnancy, race, and sex discrimination. Also handled case for regional healthcare and long-term care provider in claims involving violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, Pennsylvania Wage and Payment Collection Law, and gender discrimination laws.
- Products liability representations include the defense of one of the country’s largest pulp and paper products companies in a strict liability case involving a commercial can cleaning device; and, earlier in career, the defense of cigarette manufacturer in tobacco litigation as part of the firm’s products liability litigation team.
- Representations in commercial litigation matters include defense of temporary placement company and its officers in claims of negligent screening; representation of major chemical company in landfill matter in New Jersey federal and state courts; and representation of builder in consolidated action in federal court in Pennsylvania concerning the construction of a warehouse.
Jacquie also worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. in the Office of Policy and Procedure and served for two years as Assistant Legal Counsel to Maryland’s Governor Parris N. Glendening. While with the Governor’s office, Jacquie worked on several cutting edge legislative initiatives and staffed multiple statewide commissions, including judicial appointment reform, procurement, handgun violence, gaming, and tobacco. Jacquie often speaks at Ursinus College and the Philadelphia High School for Girls on the interaction of science, medicine and the law.
