Biography
Deborah J. Krabbendam focuses her litigation practice on complex commercial litigation, including contracts, securities litigation, and insurance matters. She provides long-range planning, research, and writing support in the litigation and appeal of complex commercial matters, including breach of contract claims, class actions, securities claims, and employment discrimination claims.
Representative Matters include the following:
- Represents former officers in cases relating to the bankruptcy of subprime lenders, including securities class actions in federal district court in Pennsylvania and related state court actions.
- Represents insurers in nationwide consumer class actions alleging inadequate disclosures or omissions relating to modal or fractional premium charges; secured dismissal of one case on forum non conveniens grounds; secured the named plaintiff’s voluntary dismissal of a second case after initial motion practice; the third case is still pending.
- Represented insurers in other nationwide consumer class actions, including cases alleging abusive practices and misrepresentation in the sale of universal and variable universal life policies; results include defeat of class certification, dismissal of case (affirmed on appeal), and summary judgment in the client's favor.
- Representation of global technology company in a variety of matters, including a breach of contract dispute arising out of a multimillion dollar hardware/software design and installation contract.
- Represents clients in litigation and government investigations pertaining to the False Claims Act and the antitrust and securities laws.
- Represents a municipal transportation authority in a dispute arising out of a multi-million dollar construction project.
